My pivotal moment this year was second semester when I got Student of the
Month. The reason why this is such a pivotal moment for me is because I
normally don’t feel like teachers realize how much effort I put into their
projects, tests, and their classes but for the first time I did. This made a
huge impact on me because it pushed me to not just settle for less, and always
try extra hard to receive a good grade. This motivated me to continue doing
well. From then on out I tried always going above and beyond on all my work. I
continuously tried to come to office hours to receive feedback before I turn
something in. This always resulted in 4’s and sometimes three’s but I’d always
get those 3’s up. This was a turning point for junior year because in that
moment I knew that I was going in the right direction and I was not only making
my parents and myself proud, but also one of my teachers. I’ve made such big improvements
from last year that it’s safe to say that I can enter 12 grade knowing that I
can go really far if I continue doing what I’m doing now.

Going back all the way to World History, I was doing really bad
and was having trouble even passing the class. History was my least favorite
subject. I came into junior year with a mindset that I was not going to
struggle in this class as much as I did last year. I ended up putting most of
my attention to this class. So before this I was focusing a little too much on
History. I wasn’t realizing this because I didn’t want to see my grade drop
like it did a lot last year. The thing is though, even my easiest class, College
Spanish, was beginning to drop. Before this event, I was pretty much trying to
do something good while doing many other things bad. I forgot about all the
effort my other classes needed. I was pretty much headed the wrong direction.

After this event I thought about what I was doing in
this class and how it affected my grade. I asked a lot of questions, constantly
came in asked for feedback on my work. I pretty much was giving it most of my
attention. This helped maintain my grade an A. I thought about it and it would
be a really good idea if I did the same for the rest of my classes. So after
this I began to put not just put all my effort in this class but in all six of
my classes, without letting any other grade slip down. I was able to maintain
my grade an A for U.S. history and I was able to raise my grade to an A in
Biology, Spanish, and Art. I learned how to manage my time a lot better, and
for once look back at something I did and be proud of it. Before when I thought
about senior year, I was scared. I had this silly idea that my grades, and work
ethic were so horrible that no college was going to accept me. Now, I see
myself opening a couple of college letters and seeing a few acceptances here
and there. Those acceptances were all because I of how much work I actually put
into my junior year. I did achieve my goals this year and one of them was
raising my GPA. Even though I did achieve my goals it doesn’t mean I stop
there. I need to make more goals and try my best to achieve them. I’m ready to
face the new challenges and obstacles that Senior Year will bring, and end Highschool
strong.
